Folk medicinal uses

The fruits and roots of K. africana boiled along with the stem and tassel of a plantain are used medicinally as a cure for post parturition haemorrhage.

Stem bark - A decoction of the stem bark of K. africana and the leaves of Irvingia gabonensis is used to cure spleen infection. A decoction of the stem bark of K. africana. leaves of Cassia occidentalis and potash is used for curing gonorrhea and syphilis. The bark is also used as a cure for rheumatism and dysentery (Oliver. 1959; Daziel, 1937) and a decoction of stem bark is used to regularise menstrual flow. Stem bark paste mixed with palm oil and salt is used for the treatment of a retained placenta •

Fruit - Powdered fruit of K. africana mixed with palm oil is a good remedy for dizziness. To combat infertility, a mixture of ground !. africana young fruit and snails. rolled into balls and allowed to dry is eaten with a cup of tea every day.

Leaves and stem bark – A decoction of leaves and stem bark for drinking and bathing serves as cure for malaria fever.
